It is something odd with Malta and Valetta. Valetta is an amazing town with a lot of nice things to do and see but it does not have this “capital feeling”. Well, with around 7.000 people living there it is the smallest capital of Europe and really deserves that title!
I have never experienced a capital that laid back and more of a small town flair. I love Valetta, mainly because there is a lot to discover and because it is just a small ferry or bus ride away from where we live.
Valetta is an interesting place! It was founded in 1566 and became the capital of Malta, not just because of the strategic position and its natural harbor. For those who come to see the history of the city, there are a lot of tours and museums, which I am discovering more and more now! For those who just want stroll around and have a nice afternoon with a glass of wine, Valetta is perfect as well!
For such a small town there are a lot of sights and hidden gems.
- History and sights
- Shops
- Bars and Restaurants
- Streets and hidden gardens.
This will just be the first of many posts about Europe’s smallest capital!
Soon there will more specific tips, so stay posted!
